On April 26, 2025, President of the Geneva Center for Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution (GCDCR), Mykola Volkivskyi, was honored to attend the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.

The passing of Pope Francis marks the end of a profound chapter in global moral leadership. Revered for his humility, courage, and unwavering advocacy for peace and social justice, Pope Francis inspired millions across all faiths and nations. His voice resonated in defense of the poor, the marginalized, and those suffering in conflict zones worldwide.

President Volkivskyi joined religious leaders, diplomats, and heads of state in Rome to pay final respects to a Pope who not only guided the Catholic Church with compassion, but also called upon the global community to uphold human dignity, dialogue, and reconciliation.

In reflecting on the legacy of Pope Francis, President Volkivskyi stated:

“Pope Francis reminded the world that leadership is not measured by power, but by service. His unwavering calls for peace—especially in times of war—continue to inspire the mission of GCDCR to build bridges of understanding and resolve conflicts through dialogue.”

The Geneva Center for Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution extends its deepest condolences to the Vatican and to all who mourn the loss of a truly extraordinary leader.
